Earth’s crammed with heaven,
And every common bush afire with God:
But only he who sees, takes off his shoes,
The rest sit round it, and pluck blackberries…
from Aurora Leigh by Elizabeth Barrett Browning

The Bright Field

I have seen the sun break through
to illuminate a small field
for a while, and gone my way
and forgotten it. But that was the pearl
of great price, the one field that had
treasure in it. I realize now
that I must give all that I have
to possess it. Life is not hurrying

on to a receding future, nor hankering after
an imagined past. It is the turning
aside like Moses to the miracle
of the lit bush, to a brightness
that seemed as transitory as your youth
once, but is the eternity that awaits you.

                                           R. S. Thomas

     God’s Grandeur

The world is charged with the grandeur of God.
It will flame out, like shining from shook foil;
It gathers to a greatness, like the ooze of oil
Crushed. Why do men then now not reck his rod?
Generations have trod, have trod, have trod;
And all is seared with trade; bleared, smeared with toil;
And wears man’s smudge and shares man’s smell: the soil
Is bare now, nor can foot feel, being shod.
And for all this, nature is never spent;
There lives the dearest freshness deep down things;
And though the last lights off the black West went
Oh, morning, at the brown brink eastward springs–
Because the Holy Ghost over the bent
World broods with warm breast and with ah! bright wings.

                                                   Gerard Manley Hopkins

To see a world in a grain of sand,
And a heaven in a wild flower,
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand,
And eternity in an hour.
  from Auguries of Innocence by William Blake

  1. It seems to me to be one of God’s greatest blessings to mankind; that we might glimpse heaven in his creation, be inspired to true life through it’s beauty, be drawn to his grace and the abundance of his love by those inspiring memories and daily (if we would only stop and look for them) visions and testimonies of him-
    “The heavens declare the glory of God; The skies proclaim the work of his hands.

    Day after day they pour forth speech; Night after night they display knowledge.

    There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard.

    Their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the end of the world.”

    Psalm 19:1-4

    Thank you for a beautiful site. Keep on posting 🙂

  2. There is no doubt in our minds how much we miss the author of Crammed with Heaven being in our midst, as one misses a family member who might have gone away on a long journey. The words from God’s Grandure which say – Generations have trod, have trod, have trod; today speak out volumes to us. May Our Father bless you and keep you and yours safe as you continue to serve Him.
